The Independent Glass Association (IGA) is committed to advancing safety, quality, and professionalism in automotive glass replacement and related services. Our approach, IGA ServiceSafety™, focuses on the service process itself: how installations are executed, documented, and verified to meet applicable safety expectations.

Rather than prescribing a single technical installation standard, IGA ServiceSafety™ emphasizes adherence to the most authoritative sources for safety requirements, including:

  • Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) procedures and specifications, which define how a specific vehicle's glass must be replaced
  • Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) enacted by the U.S. Department of Transportation for safe glazing, windshield mounting, and occupant protection

IGA and its members align their practices primarily with these OEM and federal safety requirements, ensuring consistency with the safest and most up-to-date directives available.

Encouraging Third-Party Standards & Education

While OEM procedures and FMVSS compliance form the foundation of safe service work, the IGA also encourages technicians and shops to consider:

  • Voluntary third-party recommendations and best practices,
  • Voluntary industry standards such as the *ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS 003-2015 standard,
  • Education and certification programs provided by industry-based training providers.
